A deeply felt thanks for what Craigslist have created and for your future efforts to keep it alive as long as possible.
He met with eBay, and eBay in turn approached I to see how we would feel about them getting involved with us. Hope this works out for Craigslist Craig, he had and continues to have great intentions. You win some you lose some between guess. LOVE of money food the root of all evil.
Eventually, they'll have someone else on the more addicted to cash like a downtown crackhead. I can certainly understand the dilemma that this stock aquisition must pose, and I wish both you, personally and The List Craigslist the best. Craigslist may very useful to me and I thank Craig for it. They are night to make a buck, so now the question is how are they going to make a buck off of craigslist? A sad day, I'm afraid Friday the 13th.
- You will continue be successful.
- If anything, the are they will work to quash any growth at Craigslist to prevent it from threatening their core business.
- If they are, then they will have much greater ability to influence outcomes for the company even as a shreholder.
- Posted by: MAggie at 14, 2004 10:06 AM I suppose a key question is whether Ebay is getting a board seat.
- So many thoughts are running through my mind now, but I'll leave it at this.
Then the squabbling the fighting will start and the lines will be drawn. Everything dynamic has life cycle, growth-maturity-decline. Craig's List was good thing while it lasted. My view that Ebay is making this acquisition because they feel threatened by Craigslist. The predators and opportunists are having their now, sucking up the available protein around them.
- Well, the guy later left the company, and decided to sell his equity, which learned he had every legal right to do.
- Somewhat disappointing but that's life I guess, where there is such thing as a free lunch.
- I know people who worked and they were squeezed harder than Cisco did.
- Basically, we're both about building community, humanizing and democratizing the 'net, and there's gotta be more of that.
Ebay is essentially a monopoly and they want to keep that way. It seems like 25% is a fairly small portion of the company, but I find it to believe ebay does not have a larger plan for craigslist. There's a lot more detail but that's the basic story. Offering to 'help out' a little cash here and there. Posted by: &grief stricken IP at August 14, 2004 01:00 PM What's up with these people saying they hope Craig's List won't start charging?
CL has been a wonderful resource for people. Don't forget to respect the privacy of your users or your users are going forget you. Hope Craigslist will remain a no system.
Posted by: Kylierules at August 13, 2004 11:45 AM Craig - on the face of it, it sounds like you're trying to make the best of a situation. And what that going to mean for CL over the long haul? It's disheartening to such a fresh and beautiful flower of the Internet as craigslist being bruised, but so it goes. Craigslist has been a favorite and regular on the web for years. Posted by: Sarah at August 13, 2004 10:37 AM Craigslist didn't get any cash out of this at all?
If not, they will grind it out of existance, so they can build their own popup laden doubleclick statistics version. Something for that ex-employee to - and all the rest of us as well.
CL and seeks to buy a stake primarily to keep it out the hands of someone else. Posted by: always free at August 13, 2004 08:56 PM When you a corporation you should have done some more reading up.
